Given a Love of Learning, Now She’s Giving Back

Julie Greiner

Julie Greiner is a passionate supporter of Cal State Fullerton students. A 1999 recipient of CSUF’s Distinguished Alumna Award, Greiner graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Her education has served her well, as her stellar career proves.

Greiner is chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s Florida, which operates 60 department stores in Florida and Puerto Rico. Prior to joining Macy’s Florida, she was senior executive vice president of Bloomingdale’s.

She began her retailing career in 1975 as an executive trainee at J. W. Robinson’s (later Robinsons-May, and then Macy’s West) in Los Angeles, and over the next 18 years rose through positions of increasing responsibility in merchandising prior to joining Bloomingdale’s.

Firmly believing in higher education, Greiner has chosen to support the Guardian Scholars program at Cal State Fullerton, which provides scholarships and other critical support to deserving college-bound students exiting the foster care system.

“In memory of my mother, who gave me and my four brothers a love of learning, I created the Sally Houston Greiner Endowment in support of the Guardian Scholars program,” she said. “The program is so innovative,” she continued. “It resonated with me because I think education is one of the great building blocks of our communities, and this program creates opportunities for students who might not otherwise have that chance.”
