Kathryn T. McCarty
Friendship and caring. That's what has defined Kathryn McCarty's relationship with Cal State Fullerton. She and her late husband Perry, who was Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of Beckman Instruments for 30 years, were generous supporters of Cal State Fullerton and other institutions. In the mid-80's, the couple was among the first to establish a charitable remainder unitrust at Cal State Fullerton.
After Perry passed away in 1994, Kay continued the couple's tradition of giving.
In 2004, Kathryn was introduced to the arts at Cal State Fullerton and has become an ardent, enthusiastic supporter. She gave $100,000 to the new Joseph A. W. Clayes Performing Arts Center campaign. Additionally, she gave gifts to the gala opening activities of the new Center and became a lifetime member of the Music Associates, providing gifts to their endowment fund for music scholarships. And recently, she made a $1 million bequest to the College of the Arts. In recognition of her generosity, the university named the lobby of the Clayes Performing Arts Center the Kathryn T. McCarty Grand Foyer.
The state-of-the-art Center benefits students in perpetuity—about 500 theatre and dance students and 400 music students annually—providing them with real-world performance venues and labs in which to train for professional careers.
