Steven G. Mihaylo
Not only is Steve Mihaylo a prominent and distinguished alumnus, but he’s also a visionary champion of Cal State Fullerton. His $4.5 million commitment to the College of Business and Economics capital campaign a few years ago was the largest single gift by an alumnus in the university’s history. In recognition of his generosity, the university has named its new business building—Steven G. Mihaylo Hall.
He graduated from CSUF in 1969 with a B.A. in business administration, with a dual concentration in accounting and finance.
Steve is the former chairman and CEO of Inter-Tel, Inc., the company he founded in 1969. After graduation from CSUF, Steve moved to Phoenix and established Inter-Tel as a division of Panoramic Audio, a company he worked for while attending college. Ten years later Inter-Tel was an independent company with annual sales of $7.8 million. During his tenure, Steve transformed the company’s operations from providing business telephone systems to offering complete managed services and software.
As chairman of the business school’s first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign, Steve continues to lead the campaign cabinet for the $20 million effort to construct the new state-of-the-art business building and enhance academic programs through endowments and innovative initiatives. He is also a member of the College of Business and Economics Dean’s Advisory Board and the CSF Philanthropic Foundation Board, and received an honorary doctorate from CSUF in 2005.
In 2008, Steve provided a record-setting $30 million gift to mane the College of Business and Economics. For the many students, faculty and staff members who now pass through the doors of the new Steven G. Mihaylo Hall—its namesake will forever be remembered as a generous philanthropist and visionary alumnus.
