James D. Woods
In so many ways, Jim Woods—alumnus, businessman, philanthropist—is a man who makes a difference.
Jim enrolled at Cal State Fullerton in 1960, attending night classes while working full time. He graduated in 1967 from the College of Business and Economics. "I obtained a Cal State Fullerton business degree which provided the foundation for the success I've had," he said.
Jim retired from Baker Hughes Inc. and its predecessor, Baker International, in 1997 after 41 years of service. He served as President and CEO of the consolidated companies and also assumed the chairmanship in 1989.
Throughout his life, Jim has been a community leader and philanthropist. He has contributed more than $2.2 million to the university, supporting both the College of Business and Economics' capital campaign and Titan Athletics, primarily the baseball and men's basketball programs. "I'm giving back to the university which gave to me many years ago," he said. In recognition of his generosity, the university has reserved Jim's name for the naming of the Grand Foyer in the new Steven G. Mihaylo Hall.
Because of Jim and his wife Jeannette's philanthropic spirit of support, Cal State Fullerton is making a positive difference in the lives of its students.
