ECS Scholars

What is the ECS Scholars Learning Community?

The ECS Scholars learning community is for first year students majoring in engineering or computer science. ECS Scholars will facilitate a smooth transition to college life by maximizing campus resources, opportunities for individual and community development, and on-going interaction with faculty, student affairs professionals, and peers from the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The ECS Scholars learning community offers rewarding unique benefits centered on the following aspects of university life:

Develop friendships and connections with students and faculty within the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences (ECS).

Receive specialized academic advisement for general education and major coursework under the guidance of the Center for Academic Support in Engineering and Computer Science (CASECS).

Learn how to study for core math, science, engineering and computer science courses.

Receive intensive tutoring and academic assistance in core classes.

Opportunities for service-learning experience related to their field of interest. 
Participation in the University Leadership Conference to develop leadership skills and promote campus involvement.

What are the essential components?

Fall courses reserved for ECS Scholar students:
UNIV100A (1 unit). This class is vital to academic planning, orientation, and transition to Cal State Fullerton.

English 099 or English 101 or Human Communications 100 (3 units), depending on your EPT or SAT scores. Written and oral communication are required for all freshmen and satisfy GE requirements I.B. and I.C.

Math 030 (3 units) or Math 040 (3 units) or Math 125 (5 units), depending on your ELM or SAT scores. Mathematics are required for all freshmen and satisfy GE requirements III.A.1.

EGCE 214 & 214L (3 units) or EGME 102 (3 units) or CPSC 120 (3 units), introductory course into major.

Spring courses reserved for ECS Scholar students:

UNIV 100B (2 unit). This class gives students the opportunity for field experience in the community while introducing students into engineering and computer science professions.

Make your first year at college a success by joining the ECS Learning Community!

1.

Be admitted to CSUF as a freshman (college transfer students are not eligible) majoring in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, general engineering, engineering science, or computer science.

Freshman Programs strongly encourages students to take the Entry-Level Mathematics exam (ELM) and English Placement Test (EPT) on December 1, 2007, February 2, 2008, March 15, 2008, or April 5, 2008. Please visit the Testing Services website to register for the exams. Completion of the ELM and EPT exams are required for all incoming CSUF freshman students and for acceptance to Freshman Programs.

Complete the online application today, click on the link below. Or call us at 714.278.3709 for a brochure and paper application. Preference will be given to students who apply before April 20th. Applications will be accepted until all spaces in the program are filled. All incoming freshman students must attend New Student Orientation (NSO). Students in the ECS Scholars community are required to attend NSO on June 17, 2008. Please visit www.fullerton.edu/orientation for NSO registration information.
