What is the Freshman Success Learning Community?
The Freshman Success learning community is a unique collaboration between Freshman Programs and Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). Freshman Success is designed to fast track incoming first-time freshmen that have not passed the English and/or Mathematics placement examinations.
The Freshman Success learning community offers rewarding unique benefits centered on the following aspects of university life:
Participate in a Freshman Success University 100 course which provides students with the necessary tools to successfully transition into a college environment. |
Complete between 3-6 units in 6-weeks during the summer prior to your first semester. |
Receive tutoring in English and Mathematics. |
Learn about the campus and begin building friendships with the faculty, student services professionals, and other Cal State Fullerton students. |
| Utilize the resources from both departments Freshman Programs and EOP to develop a solid academic foundation. |

Call EOP at (714) 278-2784 or visit them on the web at http://www.fullerton.edu/academicservices/eop/index.htm for information on eligibility requirements and application deadlines.
Courses offered:
English 099- Developmental Writing (3 units)
(Required if you score 144 or below on the EPT)
An intensive course in basic writing skills. Designed to prepare student for English 101. Required of, and open only to, student who score below minimum standard on the English Placement Test (EPT).
English 101 - Beginning College Writing (3 units)
(Eligible for enrollment if you score 145 or above on the EPT, or exemption from the EPT)
An introductory course in the fundamentals of expository prose. Emphasizes grammatical and basic rhetorical concepts and practices necessary for successful college writing.
Math 30A or Math 40 or Math 45 (one-week online mini-course) - Intermediate Algebra (1-3 units)
(Placement is based on score on ELM)
An intermediate algebra course designed specifically for students who scored below college level on the Entry Level Math (ELM) exam.
Human Communication 100 - Introduction to Human Communication (3 units)
An introduction to theory and practice of interpersonal communication. Practice in the development of skills for improving the quality of communication is required.
Steps to become involved with Freshman Success:

If you need to take both the remedial English and mathematics courses, it is recommended that you take both courses this summer. If you do not need to take both courses, you may also sign up for a General Education course. |

Register for courses using the web by going to http://www.fullerton.edu/titanonline. You will need your student I.D. number, as well as the personal identification (PIN) that was assigned to you by the university and printed on your admissions acknowledgement. |

Once you’re on TITAN Online Registration, select “Summer 2008 Registration” and select the department that offers the course you want to register for (e.g., English, Mathematics) and proceed as directed. |

All incoming freshman are REQUIRED to attend NSO. The fall 2008 mandatory advisement hold for first-time freshman is removed at NSO. For more information regarding NSO please visit the website http://www.fullerton.edu/orientation.
