Rozely.jpgRozely Barbero

My name is Rozely Barbero and I currently live in Diamond Bar, CA. I'm a third year Nursing major in the College of Health and Human Development. I have been a CSUF Titan since my freshman year of college. Since then I have been involved with the New Student Programs office as an Orientation Leader. I chose to become a peer mentor because one of my favorite things to do is to simply help others and make a difference in their day (it makes me smile on the inside). I can completely relate with much of what a freshman student is going through so I would like to be a helpful resource for them. My most memorable moment at CSUF was probably this summer when I worked as an Orientation Leader. I made some great friends and learned so much about myself along he way. In the future I would like to graduate with my Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and work as a nurse in underprivileged countries around the world for several years, before going back to school to get a Master's Degree in Nursing specializing in anesthesia.

AlexaC.JPGAlexa Corniel

Hello everyone, my name is Alexa Corniel and I am a Philosophy major and also a Criminal Justice minor. I am a Titan all the way, I have been at CSUF since my freshman year and I plan to finish out my undergraduate studies here.  I have been involved mainly just in school; however this year I am taking over a club on campus called OC On Track, which places children of prisoners with mentors and positive role models.  I decided to become a peer mentor because I know that when I was I freshman I would have loved to have someone that was around my age that I would be able to access whenever I was feeling overwhelmed with school; or just needed some advice for normal college issues. Though I am only a junior, my most memorable moment at CSUF was getting my very first parking ticket on my very first day of school, freshman year.  I learned a very valuable lesson a very hard way: if there is a lot of parking available after 9 am, one is probably not allowed to park there.  After I graduate, I hope to attend UCLA School of Law and then pursue my efforts in becoming a criminal defense attorney someplace in downtown Los Angeles.  Hopefully no one in this program will ever need me to defend them, but if so; one knows where to find me!

Melissa Flores

Hi!  My name is Melissa Flores and I am starting my third year at Cal State Fullerton majoring in psychology.  I chose to be a peer mentor because I want to help incoming freshman have a smooth transition from high school into college.  As a freshman I was in freshman programs and I feel that it was very beneficial to me.  I was able to learn about many of the resources available to students.  I know that there are many challenges that first year students’ face and I am willing to help those that need it.  One of my most memorable moments at Cal State Fullerton is making the Dean’s list during my second year.  After graduating from Cal State Fullerton, I hope to attend USC and get an M.A and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

Josue Guadarrama

My name is Josue Guadarram, I am originally from Mexico City; since coming to the United States I have resided in Santa Ana.  .  I am a transfer student from Santa Ana College and I am on my third and final year at CSUF.  I am a Human Communication Studies major and minor in Psychology.  I am a Mc Nair Scholar, a program designed to help first generation students get into graduate school and Ph. D programs. In the summer of 08, I conducted research at Oklahoma State University and this past summer I conducted research at the University of Michigan. This year I am getting ready to apply to graduate school in Clinical Psychology.
I became interested in being a Peer Mentor because as a first generation and low income student, I faced many obstacles in higher education that were new to me because of lack of experience.  I was fortunate to be involved in many programs that helped me to navigate through the college and university system.  I am very thankful to the professors, mentors, staff, and program coordinators of the divers programs I have participated in.  Being a peer mentor is way of passing on the information I have received to help other students gain the confidence and knowledge necessary to graduate and apply to graduate school.

Besides my academic background, I also like to travel.  I have been fortunate to enough to visit several places like: Hawaii, Bermuda, the Mayan Rivera, World Disney in Orlando Florida, Chicago, Colorado, and several other places.  I enjoy spending time with friends and family.  I also enjoy reading, dancing, teaching, and helping others.

Karina Gutierrez

Greetings and welcome to Cal State Fullerton! My name is Karina Gutierrez. I was born in Mexico, but raised in Orange Country.  I graduated from Ocean View High School in 2006. I came to our university straight out of high school and I know from experience that it can be challenging, confusing, and most of all hard to make friends. I am here in Freshman Programs to help you through that transition in the best of my abilities. I would like to show you how to make Cal State Fullerton your second home. You must be wondering how anyone can call their school a home, but it is highly possible. I will show you that there is more to Cal State Fullerton than classrooms (although primary in your education and highly important!); it is fun, exciting, and friendly. There is always something great to attend or get involved in.  I have spent a lot of my time on campus due to my involvement in Jump Start, the College Legal Clinic, and Moot Court. Along with two other people, I started an organization on campus called Project PATHE (People Against Trafficking and Human Exploitation). This year I will be president of the club, participating in Moot Court (once more), and being your mentor. I am currently going into my Fourth year as a double major in Psychology and Political Science and will be graduating May 2010. I plan to go to law school the following year. I aspire to be an advocate for neglected children and victims of human trafficking. My dream is to work as a lawyer and eventually create a non-profit organization. For the moment I look forward to helping you be successful at Cal State Fullerton.

Kyle Herbertz

My name is Kyle Herbertz. I was born & raised in Newport Beach, California. I am majored in Marketing and Finance, both housed in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. I am currently in my second year at Cal State Fullerton. During my first year, I became actively involved in Freshman Programs, Student Leadership Institute, Volunteer & Service Center, and Camp Titan. I now currently work at New Student Programs as a Titan Ambassador/Tour Guide. I also serve as the Workshop Coordinator for the SLI Coordinating Committee, and as a Project Director for the Volunteer & Service Center. I chose to become a Peer Mentor to help teach new freshmen that the experience of entering into college is overwhelming initially, but is very fun and fulfilling as students get further involved around campus. It has been proven that the students most likely to stay and finish out their four years at one school are the ones who feel that they belong, and fit in around campus. And I found from personal experience that the earlier students get involved around campus, the sooner they feel that sense of accomplishment and belonging. My most memorable moments at CSUF, so far, have simply been the fun times I have spent with friends that I’ve met on campus, and making memories that will last a lifetime. In the future, I hope to get further involved in Associated Students, CSUF, Inc. (ASI) through the Camp Titan Staff, Titan Tusk Force, Board of Directors, and Executive Staff.

Shelly Manzer

Welcome to Cal State Fullerton! My name is Shelley and I am from right here in Fullerton. I am a Child and Adolescent Studies major which is housed in the college of Humanities. I am going into my 3rd year at CSUF and have had the privilege of being apart of Freshman Future Teachers, CASSA, and last year, I  played on the first place intramural volleyball team. I chose to become a peer mentor not only to benefit myself by becoming more knowledgeable of the resources on campus, but also to help make that transition from high school to college the best experience it can be for freshman students. One of my most memorable experiences comes from my freshman year and my involvement in Freshman Programs. I got the chance to complete a 30 hour internship and met one of my lifelong friends and mentors. I plan to finish my undergrad at CSUF and then be admitted into the highly competitive genetic counseling master’s program at UCI!

My name is Mehryar (Yari) Moghaddam. I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and I have been living in California since the summer of 2005. I am majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems at Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Fall of 2009 is my fourth year here at Cal State Fullerton. In the past three years, I have been actively involved with and have held leadership positions at different on-campus organizations such as Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Middle Eastern Student Society, and Persian Student Association. I have also participated in many on-campus programs and activities including Student Leadership Institute and Intramural Sports. My education at Cal State Fullerton has been an amazing experience and it has played a pivotal role in my personal development. Now as a peer mentor I am hoping to be able to share my knowledge about the school and its resources with others and to assist first-year students to make the best of their college years. I have enjoyed every day of being a student here at Cal State Fullerton and I have way too many memorable moments to pick one to share. After graduation from CSUF, I am planning to work as a computer programmer and gradually continue to the management field of the computer/IT industry. My ultimate goals require me to continue my education at the graduate level to get an MBA. No matter where life might take me, I will always be a proud Titan!

LanceM.JPGLance Morgan

Hey everybody! Welcome to the Titan family!  My name is Lance Morgan and I am originally from Temecula, California.  I am a second year Political Science major, which makes my home college here at CSUF the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.     You may recognize me from this last summer; I was a New Student Orientation Leader for all of the new freshman, transfers, and parents that were new to the CSUF family.  I am currently employed on campus as a Titan Ambassador, which means you may see me leading a tour around campus (make sure you wave).  And of course, I am a Peer Mentor this semester for Freshman Programs.  A chose to become a Peer Mentor because I enjoy the diversity and uniqueness of each and every one of you!  My best moments here at CSUF have been meeting new and interesting people that have had different cultural, religious, and social backgrounds from myself.  After graduating I hope to go on to earn my J.D. to either practice law or work for the FBI.  But in the meantime, I've been having a blast just being a CSUF college student!

Janet Ortiz

Hi!
My name is Janet Ortiz and I was born and raised in Anaheim California.  I have attended CSUF since fall 07 and I am majoring in business marketing and sociology. I chose to become a peer mentor because I enjoy being at school and I like to help others. By taking many sociology courses, I have learned how people react to different situations and what makes them adapt to their environment.  I love attending CSUF because I feel I am in a different world, even though I am only a few minutes away from home.  My most memorable moment at CSUF was when my friends and I decided to attend a soccer game and I met amazing people. Titan Tusk Force was hosting the event and they made everyone join in and be a part of the soccer team. Many students were there cheering and most had their face painted in school colors. I felt a sense of belonging and pride among the stadium. Hopefully I will graduate by spring 11 and I wish to move to L.A and attend U.S.C. with my two best friends. Upon graduation, I really hope to work for a marketing firm in L.A or work as a therapist. My goal in life is to travel all around the world and visit as many countries as I can.

Emma Phan

Hi Everyone! My name is Emma Phan and I am originally from Nha Trang, Vietnam. I came over to the United States with my family in 1993 and had been fascinated with the culture and people here ever since! I realized at the age of nine that I have an everlasting passion for teaching and the education setting; thus, I am attending Cal State University, Fullerton to attain a degree in Child and Adolescent Development and a teaching credential in elementary education. I am currently a third year and have been actively involved with many organizations on and off campus. Some on-campus organizations I associate with are the Volunteer Services, the Vietnamese Student Association, and the Child and Adolescent Studies Student Association. I also work with the Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of Southern California and I currently hold a position in the Inter-Collegiate Counsel of UVSA. The knowledge and experience that I have gained from being a member of these important organizations and from also being a student of the Freshman Programs make me feel prepared to mentor incoming students. Along with the opportunity to build higher self-confidence and public speaking skills, the pleasure to work with professional and intelligent faculty and peers is highly rewarding to me. Most importantly, I look forward to gaining satisfaction by simply helping others. Speaking of satisfaction, the two most memorable college moments of mine are: making new friends and getting selected to become a part of staff in the Vietnamese Student Association in 2008 and 2009. My experiences have shaped me into a more open-mined person and have helped me define my visions in life. In the next 5 years, I look forward to possibly becoming the next president of the Vietnamese Student Association, graduation, and finally fulfill my dreams as an elementary teacher!

Along with being a peer mentor I am involved in Student Helping Other Student Club, Student Leadership Institute, and work at the Social Science Research Center as a Telephone Interviewer. For this reason among others I chose to become a peer mentor. I want to assist and support first time freshman with their transition into college by helping them find the resources that will allow them to achieve a successful first year at CSUF.

My name is Chauntel Riser, and I am going into my fourth year, double-majoring in communications, with an emphasis in broadcast journalism, and in psychology. I am ecstatic to be a peer mentor! I chose to become a peer mentor because of my passion for helping people. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me; I am here to make your transition easier. I am aware that the knowledge that I have gained on campus could be very beneficial to others, and I want to share that knowledge. I also have a desire to do motivational speaking, and this is a stepping-stone to that goal. My most memorable moment at Cal State Fullerton was reading the teleprompter in one of the communications TV studios in the basement of the library. It was then that I chose to be a communications major in addition to my psychology major. I plan to go into a career in multimedia. My dream is to act, report, or host a television show.

My name is Jessica Rosales and I’m actually from a small town in Jalisco, Mexico.

I’m a History major and I plan to minor in Sociology as well.  Both my major and my minor are housed in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.  I will being my third year at Cal State Fullerton I’m a part of the EOP Program and the History Students Association I’m planning to join Phi Alpha Theta a History Honor Society in the near future.  I decided to become a Peer Mentor for many reasons I wanted to give a little back to the Freshman Programs (they made my first year a lot more manageable) I want to teach at a University level someday and I believe this could be a great test run :)

I have many memorable moments here at Cal State Fullerton, but the greatest moment would have to be when I attended my very first History Students Association banquet a few months ago.  It was a great experience for me to see so many people that love history just as much as I do.  Some of my future plans include receiving a Ph. D., teaching college students and traveling the world :).

Zach Salazar

Hi, my name is Zach Salazar; I am a Junior Criminal Justice Major with a minor in Human Communication and Religious Studies.  I am from La Mirada, CA and after checking the Criminal Justice department at the CSUF campus I decided this would be the best campus for me.  This is now my third year at CSUF, having started as a freshman.  Over the past two years I participated in Freshman Programs, the National Society for Collegiate Scholars, and volunteered continuously with my local middle school—Los Coyotes—as an advisor in the leadership class.
I decided to become a peer mentor because of the great experience I had with my peer mentor as a freshman.  Her support, guidance and encouragement has definitely contributed to my own success on campus and continued attempts to strive for excellence.  One of my most memorable moments at CSUF was the trip to the Museum of Tolerance; it was unlike any other experience that provided a powerful new perspective to my understanding of tolerance and the world around us.  After completing my BA in Criminal Justice, I hope to join a law enforcement agency here in California.  Once I have established my career I would like to go back to school to complete my masters in Criminal Justice or Public Administration in addition to my continued efforts to volunteer with local students to enhance their leadership potential and skills.
