The University Honors and Scholars Center offers a unique,
comprehensive program to challenge and motivate outstanding students
throughout their university experience. Support is provided in the
areas of outreach and recruitment, orientation, program management,
and the coordination of honor society functions and special
university events.
The University Honors Program
Designed to create an enriched learning environment for
academically talented students, this program offers special
seminars, high interaction with excellent faculty, and the
opportunity for students to enhance their leadership abilities by
actively participating in the Honors Student Advisory Committee or
as members of the Honors Board. In order to graduate with University
Honors, a student must: be accepted into the University Honors
Program; complete 24 units of honors coursework; achieve a minimum
grade-point average of 3.5; and complete a senior honors project.
Interested students must apply directly to the Honors Program.
Applications are accepted for all incoming students in the spring
for the following fall. Transfer students must complete some honors
credit at their transfer institutions in order to be eligible. A
limited number of spaces are available for spring admission into the
program. New freshmen must submit applications by October 1st to be
considered.
Special Scholarships
The office offers advice, support, and encouragement for
students seeking to attain fellowships and awards. Special emphasis
is placed on providing guidance and advice on applying for
prestigious scholarships and awards such as Fulbright, Truman,
Rhodes, and CORO fellowships. The center also works closely with the
Office of the President in providing support services to President’s
Scholars.
President's Scholars
The President's Scholars Program recognizes the outstanding
achievements of incoming freshmen who have demonstrated excellence
in academic work, leadership, and community service. This program
provides a four-year scholarship that covers CSU enrollment fees, a
book stipend, complimentary parking for fall and spring semesters,
the use of a laptop computer, and priority registration. In addition
to receiving a scholarship, these students participate in university
and community events and work together on various projects.
