Linkage Requirements

For consideration into a linkage program, students must complete BOTH: Professional/Graduate School Specific and CSUF Specific Requirements.

CSUF Requirements are detailed on our Eligibility page; Professional/Graduate School Requirements are listed below.

 


 

Allopathic (MD) Linkage - Pre-Health Professions Certificate Students Only
George Washington University 

 Requirements to apply:
1) An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above.
2) PB GPA Application with 3.6 minimum G.P.A. and with no science grade below B-
3) Letters of Reference (one must be from an MD)
4) All Official College Transcripts- indicating G.P.A.’s
5) SAT/ACT Scores (any other college level standard tests taken)(If applicable)
6) Essay regarding interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine

Linkage program requirements: 

1) Support of the Health Professions Committee at CSUF.
2) Recommendation (following interview) of Admissions Committee at The George Washington University SOM.
3) Accepted candidates must complete all of their academic work in the PHPC Program at California State University, Fullerton and maintain a 3.6 grade point average in that program. 
4) All accepted candidates must take the MCATs by January of the intended matriculation year and earn a total of 30. One subtest can be 9 (no lower).


 

Osteopathic (DO) Linkage
Western University of Health Sciences

Requirements to apply:  
1) Minimum grades of B+ in science classes. 
2) At least 8 hours of shadowing a DO. 
3) Undergraduates should have an overall GPA of 3.3. 
4) Essay regarding interest in the DO program at WesternU

Linkage program requirements:  
1) Support of the Health Professions Committee at CSUF. 
2) Recommendation (following interview) of Admissions Committee at WesternU. Maintain overall science GPA of 3.3. 
3) MCATs total 24 or above (no score below 8) must be completed by January of the intended matriculation year.


 

Podiatry (DPM) Linkage  
Western University of Health Science, College of Podiatric Medicine

 Requirements to apply: 

1) Completed their first year of prerequisite premedical courses and/or transfer students in their first year at CSUF
2) One letter of recommendation from science faculty and one podiatric physician or surgeon
3) Undergraduates should have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.  and GPA of 3.0 or above in science coursework
4) A total of 22 on the MCAT with no score lower than 7 and a minimum of “M” on the written section.

Linkage program requirements: 
1) Support of the Health Professions Committee at CSUF. 


 

Optometry Linkage
Western University of Health Sciences

Requirements to apply:

  1. Completed the sequence of general biology (Bio 172/273)
  2. CSUF will supply the WesternU/Pharmacy EAP Committee with copies of the nominee’s resume, a letter of recommendation from the CSUF Pre-Health Professions EAP Committee, two additional recommendation letters from science or math faculty, and official CSUF and high school transcripts. Students will also submit a personal statement discussing their motivation toward health care in general and Optometry in particular.  Students who will contribute to diversity in the profession and/or are from disadvantaged backgrounds will be given preference.

In addition to the standard minimum required course work to meet the academic prerequisites for Western University of Health Sciences, College of Optometry, students must be qualified to receive their baccalaureate degree from CSUF or complete the PHPC Program prior to matriculation in WesternU/Optometry.  Students are expected to demonstrate motivation and personal qualities that give evidence of their suitability for a career in Optometry. 

Linkage Program Requirements:

The criteria for final acceptance to WesternU/Optometry shall be as follows:

  1. Completion of their undergraduate course work with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and a GPA of 3.30 or above in science coursework.  Students in the Health Professions certificate program must, in addition, have completed the certificate with at least 47 units and a GPA of 3.60 or above.
  2. Supportive letters of reference from the faculty Director of Health Professions Program at CSUF, and one additional science faculty member and an optometrist.
  3. Submission of completed optometry primary application (OptomCAS) no later than November 1 of the year prior to that of intended matriculation at WesternU/Optometry.  Submission of secondary application materials as requested by WU.
  4. Evidence of suitability for the health care professions, as indicated by (1) a disciplinary record entirely free of felony convictions or a proven violation of a standard of student conduct as defined by section 41301 of Title V, (2) shadowing with health care professional, as arranged in cooperation with WesternU/Optometry, and (3) a successful interview at WesternU/Optometry.

 

Pharmacy Linkage
Western University of Health Sciences

Requirements to apply:

  1. Completed the sequence of general biology (Bio 172/273)
  2. CSUF will supply the WesternU/Pharmacy EAP Committee with copies of the nominee’s resume, a letter of recommendation from the CSUF Pre-Health Professions EAP Committee, two additional recommendation letters from science or math faculty, and official CSUF and high school transcripts.  Students will also submit a personal statement discussing their motivation toward health care in general and pharmacy in particular.  Students who will contribute to diversity in the profession and/or are from disadvantaged backgrounds will be given preference.
  3. Linkage Requirements:

When a student accepts admission to the CSUF/WesternU Pharmacy EAP, she/he will authorize CSUF to provide what information WesternU requires, as permitted by FERPA, to determine student eligibility.  The criteria for final acceptance to WesternU/Pharmacy shall be as follows:

  1. Completion of their undergraduate course work with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.10, and a GPA of 3.0 or above in science coursework.  Students in the Health Professions certificate program must, in addition, have completed the certificate with at least 47 units and a GPA of 3.6 or above.
  2. Supportive letters of reference from the faculty Director of Health Professions Program at CSUF, and one additional science faculty member and/or a pharmacist.
  3. Submission of completed Pharm.D. primary application (Pharm.CAS) no later than November 1 of the year prior to that of intended matriculation at WesternU/Pharmacy.  Submission of secondary application materials as requested by WU.
  4. Evidence of suitability for the health care professions, as indicated by
    • A disciplinary record entirely free of felony convictions or a proven violation of a standard of student conduct as defined by section 41301 of Title V
    • Shadowing with health care professional, as arranged in cooperation with WesternU/Pharmacy
    • A successful interview at WesternU/Pharmacy.

 

Osteopathic (DO) Linkage - Undergraduates Only
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine

There are two campuses with which CSUF has linkages:

The Erie, Pennsylvania campus offers three learning pathways (traditional Lecture-Discussion Pathway, small-group, Problem-Based Learning Pathway, or the self-learning Independent Study Pathway) while Bradenton, Florida students enroll in Problem Based Learning. LECOM Erie also offers the Primary Care Scholars Pathway designed to attract more students to primary care and family medicine by condensing four years of medical education into three years.

Undergraduates are eligible to apply after completing two semesters of General Chemistry and General Biology and one semester of calculus. Students can apply to only one campus.

Requirements to apply:

  1. Inquiry -- Go to LECOM's portal (http://portal.lecom.edu) or link to the portal through our website (www.lecom.edu). This is an Link on the left side of the page called "Affiliated Undergraduate College Inquiry".  
  2. Students already matriculated at CSUF should complete the LECOM on-line enrollment form before February 1st of their second year of study at CSUF.

Linkage program requirements:

  1. Provisional acceptance by LECOM
  2. Support of the Health Professions Committee at CSUF. 
  3. MCATs total 24 or above (no score below 8) must be completed by April of the intended matriculation year.

A student must enroll by the end of their first semester of the second year at CSUF.


 

Pharmacy Linkage - Undergraduates Only
LECOM School of Pharmacy

The Erie, Pennsylvania campus offers three learning pathways (traditional Lecture-Discussion Pathway, small-group, Problem-Based Learning Pathway, or the self-learning Independent Study Pathway) while Bradenton, Florida students enroll in Problem Based Learning. 

Undergraduates are eligible to apply after completing two semesters of General Chemistry and General Biology and one semester of calculus. Students can apply to only one campus.

  3. Recommendation (following interview) of Admissions Committee at LECOM. Maintain overall science GPA of 3.3. 

A student must enroll by the end of their first semester of the second year at CSF.


 

 Allopathic (MD) Linkage
American University of Antigua Linkage

Requirements to apply: 

  1. Undergraduates: Biology 172 and Bio 273, General Chemistry 120A and 120B, Organic Chemistry 301A, 301B, 302, 1 semester of Calculus and at least a 3.3 GPA 
  2. Pre-Health Professions Certificate Students: completed at least 30 units with a GPA of 3.5 and above
  3. CSUF will supply the AUA Admission Officer with copies of the nominee’s resume, a letter of recommendation from the CSUF Pre-Health Professions EAP Committee, two additional recommendation letters from science or math faculty, and official CSUF and high school transcripts.  Students will also submit a personal statement discussing their motivation toward health care.

Linkage program requirements: 

  1. Undergraduates: Completion of course work with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher in pre-requisite courses required by AUA
  2. Pre-Health Professions Certificate Program: Completion of certificate with at least 47 units and a GPA of 3.6 or above
  3. No "F" or "D" grade in any pre-requisite course required by AUA
  4. An MCAT score totaling 24 with no individual score below 7
  5. A recommendation for admission by an AUA Admission Officer who has interview the student in person

 

 Allopathic (MD) Linkage
St. Georgia's University Limited Grenada, West Indies

Requirements to apply: 

  1. Undergraduates: Biology 172 and Bio 273, General Chemistry 120A and 120B, Organic Chemistry 301A, 301B, 302, 1 semester of Calculus and at least a 3.3 GPA 
  2. Pre-Health Professions Certificate Students: completed at least 30 units with a GPA of 3.5 and above
  3. CSUF will supply the SGU Admission Officer with copies of the nominee’s resume, a letter of recommendation from the CSUF Pre-Health Professions EAP Committee, two additional recommendation letters from science or math faculty, and official CSUF and high school transcripts.  Students will also submit a personal statement discussing their motivation toward health care.

 Linkage program requirements: 

  1. Undergraduates: Completion of course work with a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher in pre-requisite courses required by SGU
  2. Pre-Health Professions Certificate Program: Completion of certificate with at least 47 units and a GPA of 3.6 or above
  3. No "F" or "D" grade in any pre-requisite course required by SGU
  4. A competitive MCAT sore, which is a cumulative score within 3 points of the average entering score at SGU in the prior term
  5. A recommendation for admission by an SGU Admission Officer who has interview the student in person
