| What if I miss the mandatory Information
Session, but still want to apply?
You will NOT be able to apply and your
application will not be accepted. You must
attend an information session.
What are you looking for in an RA?
The Housing & Residence Life Office seeks to hire student
staffs who are responsible, organized, dedicated and academically
achieving student leaders. The ability to manage your time, work
independently and as a team player, follow directions, and put
the interests and safety of the residents first, are key factors
in being an RA.
What are the time commitments?
The RA job is very time consuming. The RA works 3 hours per week
staffing the RA office, hosts an open house one night per
week, has one weeknight duty night per week and 3-4 duty weekends
per semester. In addition to this, there are weekly staff meetings
from 4pm to 6pm on Thursdays, bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with
the supervisor, and staff trainings (one in August and one in
January).
Can I hold an additional job while being an RA?
Once hired for the RA position, you would be able to submit a
job proposal listing your potential job site, responsibilities
and time commitment. The Residential Community Coordinator usually approves outside employment
up to 10 hours per week, however, if the RA fails to meet their
job expectations, the Residential Community Coordinator may require them to discontinue the outside
employment.
Can I play on a sports team while being an RA?
We have had staff members who are able to balance the demands
of being on a university athletic team in addition to being an
RA. We ask that each person take into account their class schedules,
team commitments, etc when considering becoming an RA.
Can I pick my suitemates?
Yes. We would like you to be as comfortable as possible, so if
you already know other residents you’d like to live with,
write their names on your roommate selection cards and make sure
they select you as well. If you do not make any selection, we
will place you with residents whose roommate selection cards matches
yours as closely as possible.
Can I choose my floor?
The Housing & Residence Life staff chooses where to place
each RA based on their personal skills and abilities. While we
do take your preferences into account, the decision is based on
the needs of the staff team as a whole.
What does an RA do?
The RA is responsible for the floor or area they are assigned
to. They will plan social and educational programs for the residents,
advise them on academic and personal issues, refer them to campus
resources, be a positive role model, hold them accountable for
community standards, and help the residents to adjust to life
on campus. It is a tremendous growth opportunity and a great way
to enhance your leadership skills.
How much does an RA get paid?
The remuneration for holding an RA position for the academic year
is a single room in either Phase I or II, and a
$255.00 stipend
per month. RA’s who sign up to work during school breaks
receive an additional payment per hour.
How does being an RA affect my Financial Aid?
Each Applicant will be affected individually.

Can I be an RA if I’ve never lived on campus before?
Each year, we select staff members based on the skills they possess,
not where they reside. While we prefer that you have experience
living on campus, it is not an essential part of the position.
We will train you on everything we need you to know.
How many weekends will I have to work?
RA’s choose their duty schedule at the start of each semester.
They each choose 3-4 weekends per semester to be on duty. If they
have a schedule conflict with the weekends they’ve chosen,
their teammates are more than happy to switch with them for a
more suitable time.
