Maintaining Full-Time Status
As an F-1 or J-1 student, you must be a full-time student in order to maintain your immigration status. If
you enroll in less than the required number of units (to maintain full-time status), you must file
an application for Reduced Course Load (see below).
Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 12 units during the spring and fall semesters to be
considered full-time students.
Graduate students must enroll in at least 9 units during the spring and fall semesters to be
considered full-time students. However, graduate students inthe following graduate programs (see below) may enroll in at least 6 units to be considered full-time students. No reduced course load applications are required for graduate students enrolled in these programs as long as they are enrolled in at least 6 units for the semester.
