Cross-cultural contacts Program

Cross-Cultural Contacts Program
Cross-Cultural Contacts [CCC] is an innovative outreach and mentorship program designed to create a network of primarily international CSUF students who can serve as peer mentors and/or cultural liaisons to either prospective international students, or newly-admitted international students. It also serves as a wonderful resource list for CSUF students who are considering a study abroad experience, or who have recently returned from studying abroad.

The Office of International Education & Exchange will facilitate meeting locations and suggest activities for mentors and mentees such as the International Coffee break and monthly Open House. CCC mentors and mentees are encouraged to organize their own outings.

Program Goals:

  • To promote CSUF
  • To ease the transition of newly-admitted international students.
  • To create more opportunities for cross-cultural interaction among CSUF students.
  • To establish and maintain a supportive network among international and global-minded students.

Who Can Participate:
Any Cal State Fullerton student who is willing to be matched with another Cal State Fullerton student in either a mentor or mentee role can apply to be part of this program.

CCC Mentor Selection Criteria:

  • Minimum GPA requirement of 2.75
  • Caring attitude towards student development
  • Have a sincere desire to build constructive, positive relationships
  • Dependability and responsiveness
  • Open-mindedness
  • Accessible to CCC mentee

Participation Requirements
The CCC Program pledge is for one semester and renewable at the end of each term. Each mentor-mentee pair is welcomed to continue their commitment under the CCC Program beyond the first term. The success of a CCC mentoring relationship requires commitment from both the CCC mentor and CCC mentee.

CCC Mentor (application form for Fall 2008)
A CCC mentor is a volunteer CSUF student interested in and committed to helping international students adjust to life at Cal State Fullerton. The CCC mentor may serve different roles such as a CSUF guide, friends, and listener. Additional requirements are outlined below:

  • Attend a CCC orientation session
  • Meet in person with CCC mentee at least three times during the semester
  • Maintain a 2.75 GPA (semester and cumulative)
  • Attend CCC Mentor meetings

CCC Mentee (application form for Fall 2008)
Newly-admitted CSUF international students and CSUF students interested in studying overseas who would like to be connected with a more senior CSUF student who shares some similarities such as educational goals, country of birth or nationality, language or other interests, are encouraged to participate as CCC Mentees.
