Campus-Wide
ID Frequently
Asked Questions: Faculty
Q: Why has the campus issued new
ID numbers?
A: As a result of heightened awareness about identify
theft, the California legislature has passed several new laws
requiring that universities use an assigned id number to identify
students. We have taken this a step further to include faculty
and staff and others with an association with the campus.
Q: What is the format of the new campus-wide
ID number?
A: The new campus-wide-ID number is a 9-digit number beginning
with "8".
Q: Who has been issued these new
campus-wide ID numbers?
A: Anyone with any association with the campus has
been issued a campus-wide ID number including students, faculty,
staff and alumni. Each person will be issued a single number
regardless of how many different roles they play on campus
or how those roles change over time.
Q: Does the campus still require
me to provide my social security number?
A: Yes. There are still many processes including tax
reporting that require the campus to know and store your social
security number.
Q: Can students still use their
old student ID number (usually SSN) to access the Student
Portal and TITAN Online and telephone registration?
A: Yes. The Student Portal, TITAN Online and telephone
registration will allow students to sign-on using either your
old student ID number or your new campus-wide-ID number in
conjunction with their PIN.
Q: How can a person find out the
value of their own campus-wide-ID number?
A: There are several ways to do this. A new webpage is available at https://campusapps.fullerton.edu/CWID/index.aspx where you can supply your SSN and last name and you will be told your new campus-wide-ID number.
For students,
there will be information displayed in the Student Portal
and TITAN Online. We encourage students to memorize their
new number and begin using it right away instead of their
previous student ID number.
Students can also use
this website by supplying their previous student ID number
(usually SSN) and last name.
Q: How will the use of SIS+ change
following the implementation of the campus-wide ID number?
A: SIS+ screens will allow either the previous student
ID number (usually SSN) or the new campus-wide ID number to
be used to bring up students records. If the previous student
ID number (usually SSN) is entered, the record will be displayed
as if the campus-wide ID had been entered. SSN will no longer
be displayed to faculty and staff in SIS+ except for those
administrative offices that have a business need to know SSN.
Q: What about class lists and grade
rosters and other printed documents that used to contain SSN?
Are these being changed to only print this new campus-wide
ID number?
A: Yes. The new campus-wide ID number will be printed
on all lists and mailings to students unless the process specifically
requires the use of SSN.
Q: Are there times when students
cannot use their new campus-wide-ID number?
A: Yes. For the time being, access to telephone fee
payment will continue to only accept a student's previous
student ID number.
Q: Will I need a new Titan Card?
A: No. Your Titan Card only contains a 16-digit ISO
number and has never contained SSN. Students will not be required
to obtain a new Titan Card either for the same reason.
Q: When students take tests in my
classes, sometimes they are required to supply a special form
to bubble-in their answers. That form requires them to enter
their student ID number. What number should they enter now
that the campus is using this new ID number?
A: Students should begin using their new campus-assigned
campus-wide ID number on these forms although they may continue
to use their previous student ID number if they cannot remember
their campus-wide ID number for some period of time.
Q: Who should students contact if
they have more questions about their campus-wide ID number?
A: Contact Admissions & Records at (714) 278-7601.
Q: What else can I do to protect
the privacy of personal information?
A: It is important to shred all printed material that
contains sensitive personal information as soon that printed
document is no longer needed.
