Anti-Virus for Exchange Mailboxes

In an effort to provide greater antivirus coverage the Exchange email servers have been installed with email anti-virus software. This software, called Groupshield, will remove messages with infected attachments and send a warning message to the person sending the message.

What Will The Sender See When GROUPSHEILD Detects an Infected Message?
The person SENDING the message will receive a message similar to the one below. In each case the message will be sent from GSEE2Kx, with the x representing the server number the message is sent from.

The RECIPIENT will see an attachment named “Replace Infected File.txt” has replaced the infected attachment.

I have seen a different message in my Inbox from GSEE2Kx, are these also anti-virus messages?
YES. When the new Anti-Virus service was initialized you may have also seen message in the format below sent to you.

How Can I Open Attachments That Are Marked as Viruses?
Once an email attachment is marked as a virus you cannot open it.

Why does it tell Me I Have Sent an Infected Message from Months or Years Ago?
As part of the initial installation of the Groupshield product the entire exchange database was scanned by the product. Any email that is being stored in your Inbox, Sent Items, or other folders housed on the server was scanned. So you could have seen a message generated by the system like the one above.
