Cal State Fullerton
CSUF KCET Partnership

Cal State Fullerton has entered into a strategic partnership with public television station KCET. The partnership will develop a variety of programs, including original programming for a new digital TV channel, KCET-Orange.  The new channel, which was launched in November 2007, will focus on topics of interest to Orange County residents.

The value of this strategic partnership to Cal State Fullerton includes:

  • The ability to showcase the University’s programs, faculty, research and students;
  • The opportunity to lead and participate in discussions on issues of importance to Orange County;
  • The ability to generate learning and employment opportunities for Cal State Fullerton students.

Planning and implementation activities related to the KCET Partnership involve participation by a variety of personnel representing multiple divisions in the university organization. They include faculty and studio technicians in the College of Communications; Public Affairs, governmental relations professionals, and managers in University Advancement; and KCET managers and technicians.

OC Insight

The first original TV program produced at Cal State Fullerton for KCET-Orange is OC InsightOC Insight episodes feature Cal State Fullerton faculty and other experts participating in moderated discussions on national issues and their impacts on Orange County.

On Friday, February 22, 2008 a production crew of CSUF faculty, staff, students and KCET technical professionals came together to tape the inaugural episodes of OC Insight in the College of Communications TV studios in Pollack Library.   Our host, KCET News Reporter Roger Cooper, skillfully moderated two discussions, one on illegal immigration, the other on the working poor, with panelists that included two CSUF assistant professors and well known Orange County experts on these issues, including a CSUF alumna.  Students operated the cameras and tape machines, taped video related to the topics, and provided makeup services.  College of Communications faculty were involved in pre-production, script writing, directing, producing and audio production.

Two more episodes of OC Insight were taped on Friday, May 9, 2008 on the topics of the Youth Vote and the Real OC and four more episodes will be taped in Fall 2008.
