The Edison STEM-NET Student Research Fellowship program provides funds for an undergraduate student to work collaboratively with a CSU STEM faculty member on a research project during the Spring 2021 semester. Results of the student's work will be shared during a virtual meeting at the culmination of the term.

Eukaryotic genes are interrupted, appearing on the genome as informative segments (exons) interspersed with `spacer' DNA (introns). During the process of splicing, introns are removed and exons are joined together to form the gene sequence (mRNA). Further, through alternative splicing the gene can select different combinations of exons or exon segments, leading to different gene products called splice isoforms or mRNA transcripts, and ultimately contributing to functional diversity in an organism and through evolution.

CABSCon (The California State University, Fullerton Biotechnology Symposium) is an annual one-day meeting aimed at creating a fairly informal atmosphere to explore and discuss the advances in different disciplines within the framework of Biotechnology. Going beyond the traditional boundaries of Biotech research, this meeting welcomes people interested in applied mathematics, engineering, physics, as well as chemistry/biochemistry/biology. Our objectives are to facilitate networking with invited speakers from successful Biotech companies, becoming familiar with students research projects, and encouraging dialogue between students and researchers from academia and industry. CABSCon5 will take place online on December 4 2020. Speakers are: Dr. Stevan Pecic, Dr. Ester Kwon, and Dr. Amy Bui.

Please register for the Diversity Forum by October 7. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will consist of workshops and panels at various times throughout the day and Thursday and Friday are a graduate school recruitment fair.

The Black Doctoral Network welcomes current undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, and post-doctoral scholars of all racial backgrounds to participate in our online poster session at the 8th Annual Black Doctoral Network Virtual Conference, to be held on October 29-31, 2020.  Register by October 9, 2020.

Abstracts may be submitted by current undergraduate, master's and doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars (as of Fall 2020) from all racial backgrounds and in any discipline. Final deadline: September 30, 2020.
