About Phi Kappa Phi

The honor society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine and has since drawn members from all academic disciplines. Each year, approximately 34,000 members are initiated nationally.

Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only, but you do not need to be a student or faculty member to join. The organization counts professional staff and alumni as well as faculty and students among its members. With chapters on more than 300 campuses in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Phillipines, and a roster of over 1 million members, the Society signifies the promotion of intellectual life.

The Society's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." If you see yourself as part of that mission, contact Phi Kappa Phi to find out how we can work together to make it happen.
