World Languages and Careers Day

NRCAL proudly presents World Languages and Careers Day on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 to provide middle school and high school students the opportunity to learn about the benefits of learning a second language and acquiring culturally competency by interacting with representatives from various industries (business, health, entertainment, education, technology, manufacturing, transportation, etc...). The event was FREE to all students, teachers, and community partners. Over 1,000 students, teachers, and community business partners participates in this event. Participating districts included: Anaheim Union High School District, Westminster School District, Garden Grove Unified School District, and Norwalk-La Mirada School District. In partnership with CSUF, we also provided a campus tour to students as this was the first time that many of our students will have visited a college campus.

Business representatives spoke with students about the importance of being biliterate by emphasizing the following:

  •  Encourage middle and high school students to learn a second language and take advantage of opportunities to learn about another culture.
  • Support heritage language speakers in valuing their language and culture and seek opportunities to advance their language proficiency.
  • Highlighting the benefits of knowing another language and/or culture such as: cognitive, economic, national security, leadership development, and global relations.
