Welcome to The Office of First Year Experience (OFYE), your home away from home as an undeclared first year. I speak on behalf of our office when I extend a warm greeting to each and every one of you. The First Year Experience at Cal State Fullerton supports your college success by offering you a specialized program to ensure your successful transition from high school to higher education.
I want to share with you the best part of directing OFYE: it’s knowing that I have direct contact with first years who have decided that they will not tie themselves down to a major just yet. . . It’s knowing that as an undeclared student, your wings are wide open, ready to discover the personal and professional opportunities that Cal State Fullerton has to offer you. It’s the most distinguishing characteristic of the undeclared population—you’re in an excellent position to embrace a world of possibilities!
As an undeclared first year, you have the option to enroll in University 100: Foundations for College Success, Life-Long Learning and Self-Development. You will satisfy your Area E GE requirement taking this course. In this class, you will develop a sense of meaning and purpose with a focus on self-awareness and belonging, become actively involved in campus culture, understand the ways in which campus resources benefit your success in college, attain personal validation and achieve self-efficacy. This exploration will help chart your academic path and build strategies for success through graduation and beyond.
The Office of First Year Experience is located in Langsdorf Hall 216. This space is yours, come meet the amazing staff and committed peer mentors who are here for you. Peer Mentors are second and third year students who provide you with on-on-one support, they are outstanding students who are inspiring, warm, and ever so welcoming. They facilitate workshops and activities to build your sense of belonging into the Titan community. Come meet them in our Lava Lounge, a study and hang out space exclusive for undeclared first years taking UNIV100. We can’t wait to meet you!
