General Information
The President’s Scholars Program at Cal State Fullerton is based solely on merit and recognizes incoming first-time freshmen who have demonstrated excellence in academic achievement, leadership ability and community service. President’s Scholars hold a prestigious position at the university. Scholarship benefits last for four years as long as individual scholars maintain program eligibility, and include annually: full payment of CSU enrollment fees, $750 for books and supplies at Titan Shops, personal use of a laptop computer, priority registration for classes, complimentary parking permits for fall and spring semesters, automatic admittance to the University Honors Program, priority consideration for on-campus housing, and opportunities for up to 20 hours per week of on-campus employment.

Requirements
Applicants to Cal State Fullerton’s President’s Scholars Program must meet the following requirements:
• Apply to California State University, Fullerton as a first-time freshman prior to applying for the President’s Scholars Program. Applications for the scholarship from students who have not applied for general university admission will not be considered.

• Be a legal resident of the state of California. Residency is determined by the Office of Admissions and Records for fee purposes. (If you are a Nonresident Alien, but are a California resident, you must personally present or mail a legible photocopy your I-94 identification card to the President’s Scholars Program office.)

• Have earned an academic grade point average* of at least 3.75 (weighted) in all academic subjects for the 10th and 11th grades OR earn a SAT (Verbal and Math scores only) or ACT composite score that is well above average.** A minimum CSU eligibility index of 4050 is required for consideration.

• Graduate from high school in 2008. December 2007/January 2008 high-school graduates will be accepted.

• Demonstrate evidence of significant contributions to school leadership and community service activities during high school.

• Submit all of the required application components to the President’s Scholars Program office by the deadline date of Friday, February 1, 2008 (see Application Procedures for more information on the application materials and the program office mailing address).

National Merit Scholar finalists and semifinalists are offered an automatic interview with the President’s Scholars Screening Committee if they are legal residents of California, 2008 high-school graduates, and apply to Cal State Fullerton as first-time freshmen. National Merit Scholar finalists and semifinalists must submit a completed President’s Scholars Program application and a photocopy of their National Merit Scholarship Corporation notification letter. The university does not guarantee acceptance of National Merit Scholars into the President’s Scholars Program.


Application Materials & Procedures

Important: Be sure to file an application for admission to the university before applying for the President’s Scholars scholarship. Applications for the scholarship from students who have not applied to the university will not be considered.

The application process is now available online with complete instructions. See below for instructions for separate transcripts and letters of recommendation.

Submit the following separate applications materials in a single large envelope after you have completed your online application (exception: official transcripts sent directly from your high school separate from your application packet are acceptable):

1. Sixth-Semester Transcript (must be sent to the program office by regular mail): Please submit an official, sealed high-school transcript including grades for freshman, sophomore and junior years. Official transcripts mailed directly from your school are acceptable.

2. Candidate Evaluation Forms and Letters of Recommendation (must be sent to the program office by regular mail): Two Candidate Evaluation Forms and accompanying Letters of Recommendation are required. Each form and accompanying letter must be completed by individuals who can discuss the applicant’s academic and personal achievements and potential for success. The applicant may select two individuals from their high school (e.g., high-school principal, teachers or counselors) as their evaluators. The accompanying Letters of Recommendation must be typed on school letterhead. Handwritten letters are no longer accepted. Each form and accompanying letter must be sealed in an envelope with the author’s signature along the seal. Place clear tape over the signature on the seal. Envelopes not secured in this fashion will not be accepted.

3. If you are a National Merit Scholar finalist or semifinalist, a copy of your National Merit Scholar Corporation notification letter must accompany your application.
All President’s Scholars Program application materials must be submitted to the following address and postmarked on or before Friday, February 1, 2008:

Deadlines: It is the applicant’s responsibility to see that the Friday, February 1, 2008, deadline is met. Please follow up with the appropriate people before the deadline to make sure your transcripts, evaluation forms and letters of recommendation have been completed and forwarded to the President’s Scholars Program office. Applicants are encouraged to contact the President’s Scholars Program office regarding the status of their application by calling (714) 278-3458.
