I.              CALL TO ORDER

         Chair Guerin called the meeting to order at 11:32 a.m.

 

II.            URGENT BUSINESS

        None.

 

III.          ANNOUNCEMENTS

President Gordon congratulated ASI on the candlelight vigil it held in our Memorial Grove for the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting. Approximately 400 people attended.

 

Senator Nanjundappa reminded the body that new contract ratification will take place May 1-3, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the CFA Fullerton Chapter office.

 

Chair Guerin reminded the body that the All-University Elections will be held May 7-10, 2007 and that all candidate statements and photos are due to the Academic Senate office by tomorrow, Friday, April 27, 2007.

 

Senator Buck invited all to attend Dr. Jim Young’s presentation on the history of the Theatre Department at 4:00 p.m. in the Young Theatre this afternoon.

 

Senator Dabirian demonstrated electronic transponders. As a test, they were used to approve the minutes of 3-1-07 and 4-5-07. At the next Senate meeting, the senators will vote on using the transponders for the electoral meeting.

 

 

IV.          APPROVAL OF MINUTES

4.1  M/S/P [Stang/Nanjundappa] to approve ASD 07-34 Academic Senate Meeting Minutes 3-1-07 as edited:

·        In the second and third paragraphs under “III. Announcements”, change “Senate Meyer” to “Senator Meyer”.     

·        Under “V. Time Certain, Section IV.K.”, second bullet, the source of the friendly amendment is unattributed.

 

 

4.2  M/S/P [Junn/Arnold] to approve ASD 07-66 Academic Senate Meeting Minutes 4-5-07 as edited:

·        In the seventh paragraph under “III. Announcements”, change “ We came” to “We expect”

(Section II.B.1.b.2) M/S/F [Junn/Fromson] to delete “However, they shall not count for more than 50% for weighing teaching effectiveness” and substitute with ‘However, they shall not be used by any level of evaluation as the sole measure of teaching effectiveness.”

·        Voice vote: Motion failed. One abstention.

·        With the consent of at least 20% of the body, a roll call vote was taken. The results were as follows: (Yays: 6 – Nays:26 – Abstentions: 5)

M/S/P [McConnell/Drezner] to approve the following suggested by AVP Atwell: (Approved with one abstention)

·        (Make the following text Section I.I. and make the former Section I.I. Portfolio and Appendices, Section I. J.):

        

The new Section I.I. would read:

I.              Early Promotion or Early Tenure

In order to be considered for early promotion or early tenure, the eligible faculty member shall apply in writing to Faculty Affairs and Records on or before September 10.

 

·        Add the following statement to Section II.A.4.c.:

“In order to be considered for early tenure, the eligible faculty member shall apply in writing to Faculty Affairs and Records on or before September 10.”

 

·        Add the following statement to Section II.A.5.b:

“In order to be considered for early promotion, the eligible faculty member shall apply in writing to Faculty Affairs and Records on or before September 10.”

Professor Linder was acknowledged by the Academic Senate for receiving this prestigious award and presented with flowers and the traditional Senate keychain.

Judi King, Chief of Police, CSUF

In light of the violent events which took place at Virginia Tech University, Chief King discussed various preventive measures, response methods, and our emergency notification processes. She referenced the following three brochures, which are readily available to the campus community: “Preventing and Responding to Campus Violence: Faculty and Staff Guidelines”, “Preventing and Responding to Campus Violence: Student Guidelines”, and “Faculty Responsibilities for Student Health and Safety”. More information on campus violence can be obtained at http://ehis.fullerton.edu/go/preventviolence. Chief King’s address will be posted to the Academic Senate web site.
