Study Abroad Insurance

CSUF requires that all participants on study abroad programs be insured while abroad. You must purchase sufficient study abroad medical insurance for the entire term of your study abroad experience. Of particular importance is coverage for medical expenses relating to sickness, injury, medical evacuation, and repatriation.  CSUF requires you provide proof of the coverage.

Required Insurance:

All CSUF students are required to enroll and purchase CSUF approved Study Abroad medical insurance coverage to cover any potential injury and/or illness that may occur during a study program, or a Non-CSUF sponsored study abroad program. Students may choose from the following two options:

OPTION 1:  WELLS FARGO OF CALIFORNIA INSURANCE SERVICES

The first option is through Wells Fargo of California Insurance Services Inc., with whom the University has contracted to provide comprehensive study abroad health insurance at a very reasonable price. The University has a hands-on, positive track record with Wells Fargo Insurance. All students studying abroad on Non-CSUF programs are strongly encouraged to participate in the Wells Fargo Insurance Plan.

OPTION 2:  INSURANCE OFFERED BY STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM PROVIDER

The second option is with the program in which the student is enrolled. A number of study abroad programs (e.g. IES and Arcadia) offer health insurance to their enrollees. Some even make it mandatory. Students and parents are cautioned to check the benefit levels of such insurance plans to make sure that they are adequate in the event of an emergency.
