CSUF's Priorities
Guardian Scholars
Guardian
Scholars is a comprehensive program that supports former
foster youth in their effort to gain a college education.
As wards of the court, foster care youth emancipate at age
18 and are forced to make a difficult transition to adulthood,
usually without traditional family support. A staggering statistic
shows that 40 percent of these young people end up homeless
in the first year following emancipation. Fortunately, the
Guardian Scholars program provides the opportunity to change
individual lives and make dreams come true.
While Guardian Scholars must meet admission standards of
Cal State Fullerton, once admitted, they receive a number
of benefits unique to this particular scholarship program.
Specifically, the full scholarship includes:
- Payment of fees and supplies
- Year-round on-campus housing
- Assistance in locating on-campus student employment
- One-on-one counseling
- Peer and professional mentoring programs
- Financial aid application assistance
- Employment assistance within career field after graduation
- Post-graduation career planning and assistance.
The program is a collaborative effort of Cal State Fullerton
and the Orangewood Children's Foundation and is funded by
donations from individuals, foundations and corporations.
