Dan Black
University Citizen Gives Back in Many Areas
Dan Black perhaps is best known for his $4.2 million gift to the Cal State Fullerton College of natural Sciences and Mathematics this spring, in recognition for which the university renamed its Science Laboratory Center Dan Black Hall. But Black's gifts and pledges to the university span a horizon of interests, beginning with his "home" department in physics and continuing through to the performing arts.
Black is a member of the university's Philanthropic foundation Board and has made contributions to the College of the Arts and the College of Business and Economics, in addition to the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
He gives $75,000 annually to support the Dan Black Program in Physics and Business, as well as student scholarships.
"The physics department changed my whole life. What i was taught there helped me in my whole career," Black says. "I wanted to do something to help others. I can see the rewards on the students' faces when they receive their scholarships. We're here for a reason and I am fortunate enough to do things like this."
"Dan Black is an example of a true university citizen." says Pamela Hillman, vice president for advancement. "He is involved in the full spectrum of university life, fascinated not only by physics, his primary interest, but by the arts, commerce, and exhibits a genuine desire to share with others."
