Earlier Giving

Photo: Boeing Check PresentationLast year Kevin Ober and Oliver Watson from the Boeing Company presented $47,000 to Cal State Fullerton. The money Boeing provided is going towards scholarships for the Maximizing Engineering Potential program as well as providing funding for tutoring centers for Math and Sciences and Business and Economics. In addition, $10,000 was provided to GEAR-UP Anaheim, a local chapter of a an national education reform effort designed to help more students succeed in high School, pass exit exams, and continue to college. Another $10,000 of the donation has been put towards The Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education. CESME is a joint endeavor between the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Health and Human Development and serves to be a focal point for coordinating and promoting collaborative activities among faculty members from education, science, and mathematics as well as for developing partnerships with schools, industry, and community organizations.

In addition to assistance provided to Cal State Fullerton, Boeing has established a partnership with the Chancellor of California State University on a campaign to encourage students to pursue college degrees. More than 500,000 posters for students in grades 6-12, printed in both English and Spanish, featured information on academic and testing requirements and financial aid.

In 2003 Boeing also made a contribution to help renovate the Griffith Observatory, a Southern California icon, to its original grandeur. The restoration includes a new educational wing, supported by Boeing, with classrooms and meeting space for students and teachers.
