Description:
The ECS Scholars program is a learning community for first-year students majoring in engineering or computer science.  The program allows students to develop a community of peers which will help them to learn, grow, and succeed at Cal State Fullerton.  The ECS Scholars program is also intended to provide a safe space for underrepresented students within engineering and computer science. 

Participants take core classes together and attend study group sessions that assist with their learning.  Study group sessions are led by qualified tutors that have experience working with students and facilitating learning.  The ECS Scholars program is a collaborative effort between the Center for Academic Support in Engineering and Computer Science (CASECS), the University Learning Center (ULC), and Cal State Fullerton Title V Programs.

Benefits:
By participating in the ECS Scholars program, students will achieve the following:

  • Make friends within the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS)
  • Develop a network of peers with similar majors and interests
  • Receive FREE tutoring and academic assistance in core classes
  • Learn how to study for core math, science, engineering, and computer science courses
  • Succeed during their first year at Cal State Fullerton
  • Earn Cal State Fullerton t-shirts and other paraphernalia
  • Earn calculators, flash drives, and other educational items
  • Receive certificate and recognition at the CASECS awards banquet

Requirements:
In order to participate in the ECS Scholars program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • First-time freshman in Fall 2007
  • Majoring in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, general engineering, engineering science, or computer science
  • Member of an underrepresented group within engineering and computer science
  • Registered student in the Center for Academic Support in Engineering and Computer Science (CASECS)

Expectations:
As a participant in the ECS Scholars program, you will be expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Register for specified courses under the guidance the CASECS Academic Counselor
  • Attend all classes regularly
  • Attend all scheduled study sessions
  • Attend writing tutorials as needed
  • Meet with CASECS Academic Counselor once per semester
  • Participate in the Peer Group Program during the Fall 2007
  • Participate in the University Leadership Conference (Spring 2008)
