Student Employment Opportunities
The University Learning Center hires primarily undergraduate student employees for tutor and reception positions. Tutors must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. They must have earned a B or better in the General Education courses that we tutor, verified by Titan Degree Audit. In addition to filling out the application available here, they must submit a letter of recommendation, preferably from a CSUF faculty member, or our Recommendation Form. We have a thorough interview and reference check process, and upon selection, ask for an academic year commitment. Our tutors have a twice-a-year retreat and monthly tutor training. We interview in May, and train in August for the start of the Academic year.Elsewhere on this site is the list of GE subjects we tutor - please refer to that first prior to filling out and submitting an application for tutor consideration.
The benefits of working for the ULC is that we are a community of learners. We provide paid tutor training each month using the topics suggested by the College Reading and Learning Association, as that is the sponsor of our International Tutor Training Program Certification. We ask for a minimum of 10 hours a week of tutoring and work around your schedule. Tutors have the first and last week of the semester off, as well as fall and spring recess. In short, we are a great place to work!
Toward the end of each academic year, we ask graduating students to recruit their replacement. Our receptionists and tutors are our best ambassadors for the work we enjoy! We also contact departments for potential tutor recommendations for courses for which we tutor.
We accept and file applications all year in the event that there is an opening. You may turn them into our reception desk - PLN 200 during our business hours. Please make sure that if you are applying for a receptionist position that you have provided the required references with phone numbers, and for tutors, the additional recommendation form or letter.
