Our History

  • JULY 2008

    • California State University, Fullerton’s Veteran Student Services (VSS) was established.vss students 2009  The university community and its leadership made a strong commitment of support to our veterans who were transitioning from the military to the university environment by funding the VSS office and the position of VSS Coordinator.
  •  OCTOBER 2010

    • After two years of developing effective services and innovative approaches to handle the current issues facing veterans, VSS was chosen as one of the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success (CEVSS) recipients in October 2010.
    • VSS grew into a program that guided veterans toward their highest personal and academic achievement, graduation, and fulfilling careers.
  • june 2012

    • VSS opens its own space.

  • august 2014

    • In 2014, VSS acquired a Department Director and merged with Certification and became the Veterans Resource Center (VRC).  The role of the VRC remains crucial in assisting military-connected students reach their goal of returning to college as students and serving their community as active, prepared, and engaged citizens.

  • September 2018

    • Over the years, student veterans and military-connected students advocated for a larger space as the student population increased in size and engagement with the VRC.  As a result, the VRC relocated to a larger space in University Hall 244.
