Women Veterans Brunch
The next Women Veterans Brunch will be held on Sunday, March 11th, from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please RSVP to 657-278-8660 if you're interested in attending. The cost of the brunch is $13.99. This month we will be making ribbons for our "Women in the Military History Week" campaign. We will be handing out these ribbons on campus to raise awareness and as a show of support and appreciation for the contributions of all women in the military.
Veterans' Appreciation Night
Save the date! Veterans' Appreciation Night will be held on Sunday May 6th, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. which is just two months away! This is event is held to recognize our graduating student veterans, acknowledge deploying veterans and honoring all student veterans on our campus.
Women in the Military History Week
A celebration of women in the military will be held from March 18th through the 24th. Please stop by our table in the quad and pick up a ribbon to commemorate the contribution women have made to our military. Also, we will have a panel discussion Wednesday, March 21st from 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Staff, faculty, and student veterans will share their military experiences and how they have come to where they are today.
Region 8
The Region 8 conference of California colleges will be held on March 16th. If you would like to attend, please call the VSS office for information.
Scholarship
The Veterans' Scholarship for Success is taking applications. Interested student veterans must submit their applications by April 16th, 2012. Applications can be pick up in UH 230, The WoMen's Center, or accessed online.
Jobs
The VSS web site has introduced a "Job Opportunity" tab. Be sure to check it out for information on upcoming job fairs and positions available for student veterans! http://www.fullerton.edu/veterans/jobs/
Finally
VSS receives frequent requests to send out surveys to our student veteran population. We screen these surveys in an effort to support fair, accurate, and relevent research. The following research project is being conducted by the University of New Hampshire. The purpose of this research is to assess learning strategies and outcomes of student veterans attending college. The project is designed to evaluate how your "transitional" experience impacts your university experience.
It is an extensive questionnaire that includes items regarding demographics, military experience, deployment, traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress symptoms, as well as personal and academic strengths, learning styles, and coping skills. This survey upholds confidentiality, and at the end - provides links to support services, and offers a gift-card drawing incentive.
The results of the survey will be used to inform colleges and universities about the student veteran population and how we can best meet emerging academic needs.
