Ambassadors of International Education Scholarship
The CSUF Ambassadors of International Education Scholarships are open to all undergraduate & graduate degree-seeking students at Cal State Fullerton. Students must hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 to apply. Scholarship recipients will be encouraged to assist the CSUF Study Abroad Office in promoting study abroad following their return

- Arcadia Center for Education Abroad
- Denmark’s International Study Program Scholarships
- IAESTE – Travel Scholarship
The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, IAESTE, is a paid work abroad exchange program with locations throughout the world. Students enrolled in a technical field of study (i.e. engineering, computer science, architecture, mathematics, natural and physical sciences, or agricultural sciences) can participate.
Each year IAESTE awards scholarships, typically $1000 each, to participants in the program to offset travel costs.

IES offers a number of scholarships. Please check its list carefully. Some scholarships are location- or major-specific and others are need or merit based.

- CIEE – Scholarships
- CIEE Jennifer Ritzmann Scholarship for Studies in Tropical Biology
CIEE awards this scholarship to a participant in the Monteverde, Costa Rica program. Students accepted to the program will automatically be considered for this award and will be reviewed based on the program application. A single award of $1,000, applied toward program fees, will be given each year.
- CIEE John E. Bowman Travel Grants
The Bowman Travel Grants provide assistance to students participating in CIEE study programs in non-traditional locations. They help defray the cost of travel. Countries currently eligible are Argentina, Poland, Ghana, Russia, Senegal, Brazil, Hungary, South Africa, Chile, Japan, Taiwan, China, Costa Rica, Turkey, Czech Republic, Vietnam, Dominican Republic.
Deadline: October 15 for spring/calendar year programs; March 15 for summer/fall/academic year programs.
- CIEE Robert B. Bailey Scholarship
The Robert B. Bailey Scholarship is intended to promote participation in CIEE's International Study Programs by members of groups which have traditionally been under-represented in study abroad, especially ethnic minority students. Applicants are asked to specify the group to which they belong and which they believe is underrepresented in study abroad (e.g. African, Arab, Asian, Hispanic, or Native American). The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, admitted to a CIEE program and self-identified as belonging to an underrepresented group.
Deadline: October 15 for spring or calendar year/summer programs; March 15 for summer/fall/academic year programs.
- Studio Art Centers International (SACI) Scholarships
SACI offers one full scholarship and a number of partial scholarships are awarded in two competitions held each year. All SACI scholarships are based on several criteria including outstanding academic and artistic ability and demonstrated financial need. There is no separate scholarship application. Students who wish to apply for SACI scholarships need only check the appropriate box on the application form and submit any additional requirements as necessary. Applicants must submit a statement of purpose, two references, an official transcript, and a portfolio consisting of 20 labeled slides of work or 20 works on CD, or for non-studio art history students, two term papers between 6 and 10 pages in length.
Deadline: March 31 for the Fall Term; October 1 for the Spring Term.
- RMIT - Study Abroad Community Service Scholarship
Established in 1887, RMIT University is one of Australia's leading education institutions. Based in central Melbourne, its fully integrated study abroad program offers students the opportunity to choose from a wide range of classes and encourages interaction with local students and the community.
- Freeman-Asia Program
Encourages American undergraduates to study in East and Southeast Asia. Priority is given to students with no previous experience in the country in which they plan to study. Application deadlines are November 1 for the spring semester and April 1 for the fall or academic year.

The IEFC provides loans to students wishing to study in foreign countries through the International Student Loan Program.

General Scholarships
- American-Sandinavian Fellowship
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships (up to $18,000) and grants (normally $3,000) to individuals to pursue research or study for a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential. Applicants must have completed their undergraduate education by the start of the project. Priority is given to candidates at the graduate level for dissertation-related study or research.
- Bridging Scholarships
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project accepts applications from American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Funding from private foundations and major U.S. corporations has made it possible for ATJ to award 100 scholarships annually to assist students with the travel and living expenses they will incur while studying abroad in Japan.
- DAAD Awards
DAAD grants for study and research in Germany are available to faculty and students in Canada and the United States. Scholars participate in a wide variety of academic activities to promote international academic relations and cooperation. Application deadlines vary.

- Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-Asia)
- Fulbright Grants
This is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide.
- Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad
Gilman Scholarships expand opportunities for study abroad for students whose demonstrated financial need might otherwise preclude them from such an experience. The scholarship provides awards to US undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding. Students who have not studied abroad previously are encouraged to apply.
- Japan Student Services Organization Scholarships (formerly AIEJ)
- National Security Education Program (NSEP)
NSEP supports outstanding undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate high levels of academic performance and strong motivation to internationalize their education by developing expertise in the languages, cultures, and world regions less commonly studied by Americans. Applicants must be evaluated by a University committee in early January.

- Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
The Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant is designed to provide support for an undergraduate student as he or she seeks knowledge and experience through a study abroad program. The grant is open to both qualified members of the society and non-members in all fields of study. Four $1, 000 grants will be awarded in each of Phi Kappa Phi's five regions. The applicant must be enrolled at an institution that has an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter (CSUF has a chapter), must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must have earned a minimum of 56 academic credits but not more than 90 at the time of application, and have at least one full year remaining in his/her academic program after studying abroad.
- Phi Kappa Phi Internship Grants
The Phi Kappa Phi Internship Grant is designed to support an undergraduate recipient as he or she seeks knowledge and experience in his or her academic field by working outside of the academic setting. The grant is open to both qualified members of the society and non-members in all fields of study. Four $1, 000 grants will be awarded in each of Phi Kappa Phi's five regions. The applicant must be enrolled at an institution that has an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter (CSUF has a chapter), must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must have earned a minimum of 56 academic credits but not more than 90 at the time of application, have at least one full year remaining in his/her academic program after the internship, and must be committed to an internship of at least 20 hours per week for a minimum of six weeks.
- Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship
Grants usually range between $13,000 & $25,000 for students who wish to directly enroll in a university overseas.
- Student Loan Abroad Program
This program is offered by the Student Loan Network and guaranteed by the TERI corporation, a non-profit guarantor of alternative loans. This loan does not need school certification, the student simply needs to verify enrollment by providing a letter from the school or other verification of enrollment. Students with a cosigner can apply online and receive funds directly within 5 business days. There is no cost to apply.
