CSS & Javascript Basics

CSS

CSS a language used to style web content.  There are many tutorials online which can help you understand CSS and what it can do.  We don't expect that you write your own CSS.

Version 4 templates only need you to copy a style and paste it into your page properties.

Check out the Campus' Web Style Standards site to see available styles.

Campus Web Standards

The Campus brand is very important to us and your website should reflect CSU Fullerton's image correctly.

The web style standards website has many types of styles that are ready to go on any page you're building for your site.

Javascript

Javascript is a run time programming language that allows users to interact, change, and control items on your website.  Where CSS makes it look the way you want, javascript can make your page act the way you want.

In version 4 templates there are many features which you'll use that automatically included the correct javascript functions.  Accordions, slideshows, image galleries all are examples of things that utilize javascript to work.  Again you are not required to know or write your own javascript on any page.

CSS & Javascript Overrides

We have provided default styles and functionality with the site automatically for you.  If you get to a point where you need to have your site do something special and feel confident that you can make that happen we do include both CSS and javascript files that you can custom create your own code.

As we upgrade sites we do not change this code but may create new styles and features that would conflict or duplicate your own work.  You can always check with us before creating your own content to see if we are working on anything that could do the job for you.  If its easy there is no problem for us to create something that would become standard in the next template upgrade.
