AUHSD
SCIENCE WORKSHOP
Sponsored by the CoAST Grant
DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND A WONDERFUL SCIENCE WORKSHOP!!
The Workshop will focus on guiding students towards an understanding of the technical aspects of science writing, including the descriptive nature of observations. Help students learn to identify what to look for and how to record their observations. Support an awareness of vocabulary, including the choice of appropriate words and structure. Learn to incorporate the meta-cognitive component that prompts students to think about strategies for science writing.
Doug Fisher will be presenting a Science workshop on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Savanna High School from 7:30 A.M. to Noon.
Teachers will be paid the hourly rate to attend. It is strongly recommended for all Science teachers, especially Science Induction Participants. This will help satisfy Induction Standard 15 (Content)
Doug Fisher has received rave reviews for the excellent workshops that he presents. All AUHSD Science Teachers are encouraged to attend. |

All science teachers in the Anaheim Union High School District are encouraged to obtain additional science teaching credentials. Additional credentialed areas will assist teachers in being Highly Qualified, under the federal No Child Left Behind Legislation, should they be assigned an additional field in science at their school sites. The CoAST Grant support efforts of existing and new teachers for test preparation and testing costs through the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE). In order to register, teachers must pay all costs with OCDE, attend required trainings regularly and take the appropriate CSET Exam through ETS. With proof of a successful passing score in an additional science field, the CoAST Grant will reimburse teachers for the cost of the training at OCDE and the cost of the exam with ETS.
For additional information, contact Jill Evans at (714) 999-5601. |

Liberal Studies Science/Math Education Theme |
|
This theme is designed for the prospective elementary teacher who desires to focus his/her subject matter preparation in science and mathematics. This theme will readily combine with the Natural Science Minor, assuming that the student has selected foundational GE science classes in the three strands of science: Life Science, Earth/Space Science and Physical Science. Students who complete the LBST Science/Math Education Theme should be eligible for the Natural Science Minor with two additional upper division science courses from at least two departments from the following: Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Physics.
Students combine the 27-unit core with the following 24-unit theme:
Science Education (9 units):
SCED 410 (Physical Science Concepts)
SCED 453 (Life Science Concepts)
SCED 412 (Processes of Science)
Math Education (6 units):
MATH 303A (Fundamental Concepts of Elementary Math)
MATH 303B (Fundamental Concepts of Elementary Math)
Two of the following interdisciplinary science courses (6 units)*:
ANTH 344 (Human Evolution) (GE III.A.3)
PHIL 303 (Intro to Philosophy of Science) (GE III.A.3)
PHIL 313 (Environmental Ethics) (GE III.B.3)
PHIL 314 (Medical Ethics) (GE III.B.2)
PHIL 316 (Research Ethics) (GE III.B.3)
PHIL 333 (Evolution & Creation) (GE III.A.3)
HIST 430 (History of Science)
*Or courses approved by LBST advisor (must be from departments outside of the College of Natural Science and Mathematics)
Senior Project (3 units) |
