[UDW] indicates the class satisfies the course component of the university's upper division writing requirement.  
[GE] indicates a General Education course and may not be used by Communications majors to fulfill a GE requirement.
TRANSFER. If you are transferring an equivalent course to COMM 101 or 233, please submit documentation of this  
(e.g., transcript, grade report) to the Department of Communications, H-230, PRIOR to enrollment.    
"C" REQUIREMENT. Communications majors must earn an overall GPA of "C" (2.00) or better in the major.  
Also, students must earn a "C" or better in all classes in the major that are prerequisites for other classes.  
Additionally, students must earn a "C" or better in all upper division writing (UDW) courses.      
DEGREE. The B.A. degree in Communications requires 124 units: 84 outside COMM + 36 in COMM + 4 optional.  
All Communications majors must take at least 84 units outside of COMM. Of the 84, at least 65 must be Liberal Arts & Sciences
courses. Consult your adviser or the School of Communications Advising Center, H-225A, for details.    
GRAD CHECK. (1) Apply at Grad Unit when you reach senior standing—90 units. (2) Take grad check to School of Comm
Advising Center, H-225A. (3) Take form, with student file, to concentration adviser. (4) Return form to grad unit.  
COMM 410. Principles of Communications Research may count only once, either in the core or as a concentration elective.
MINOR OR COLLATERAL REQUIREMENT (minimum 4 UD classes = 12 units)
All Communications majors must complete EITHER a minor (double major also counts) OR 12 collateral units
(4 classes) of upper division (UD) coursework outside of Communications. For minors or double majors, consult

You may subsitute other courses for collateral credit with prior, written approval from your adviser.
COMM majors may be exempt from prerequisites with instructor consent.
