I Like to Use My Bilingual Brain! Supporting Language Architecture with Bilingual Mentor Texts
Nelson Flores is assistant professor of educational linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. He previously served as project director for the CUNY-New York State Initiative on Emergent Bilinguals that seeks to improve the educational outcomes of emergent bilingual students through an intensive seminar series for school leaders combined with on-site support. He currently serves as the principal investigator of the Philadelphia Bilingual Education Project (PBEP) that seeks to examine the historical and contemporary cultural politics of bilingual education in the School District of Philadelphia and provide professional development to bilingual teachers.

Dr. Fernando Rodríguez-Valls is Associate Professor at California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Rodríguez-Valls has created partnerships with school districts, local educational agencies and universities to develop and implement community-based [bi]literacy programs. He has also developed interdisciplinary curriculum supporting language acquisition for English Learners with Visual Arts –e.g., digital collages.
Dr. Rodríguez-Valls’ work focuses on equitable instructional practices for second language learners and migrant students as well as on the socio-cultural factors affecting their academic achievement, educational continuity and school engagement. His publications examine the idea of culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy implemented by highly qualified bilingual and cultural competent teachers

Jessica Fraser is a Digital Learning Coach in the Anaheim Elementary School District, coaching TK-6th grade teachers in effective and meaningful technology integration. Prior to this role, Jessica taught 3rd-5th grade for ten years, with the majority of her students being English Language Learners. As a life long learner, Jessica seeks out ways to continually grow as a professional, including earning her Master of Science Degree in Educational Technology from Cal State Fullerton and becoming certified as a Leading Edge Professional Learning Leader. Jessica brings knowledge from personal experience and her studies, passion for helping all students succeed, and enthusiasm for learning and collaborating with other educators!

Hue-An Wren is a Teacher on Special Assignment in the K-12 Office of Instructional Technology at Garden Grove Unified School District. Prior to that she was an elementary teacher for 12 years where she has been able to implement technology with students as young as kindergarten. She is also a Google Certified Trainer and enjoys working in this community to bring best practices in digital learning to our district. Hue-An earned her doctorate in Learning Technologies from Pepperdine University.

Vy Hoang has been a highschool Vietnamese and mathematics teacher for the past eight years. Vy has Single Subject Credentials in Mathematics and Vietnamese, a Multiple Subject Credential with a BCLAD in Vietnamese, and a Masters of Arts with Education with a Focus on Math and Science Teaching. She started the Vietnamese language program at the Ambassador School of Global Leadership (LAUSD). Vy is passionate about education and making the world a bilingual/biliterate place.
