C. Complementary Writing Course

To meet the certification requirement of a  complementary writing course , the course must include writing as a secondary objective. The UWPC recommends including this statement at the top of the syllabus:

"This course is designated by the University Writing Proficiency Committee as a writing-complementary course . Earning a "c" (2.0) or higher may be used by certain majors to partially fulfill the University's upper-division writing requirement (UDWR). Check with an advisor in your major to determine if this course will satisfy the requirement for your major."

In addition, the syllabus of an complementary writing course shall describe how the course satisfies the complementary writing requirement. (UPS 320.020)This information can be presented in the course objectives, student learning outcomes, assignment descriptions, assignment rubrics, and/or the course schedule.
