leslie bruce Dr. Leslie Bruce, Faculty Fellow for Writing Across the Curriculum

Leslie Bruce has taught composition and literature in CSUF’s Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics since 2007.  Her experience in Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) began when, as a middle-school Biology teacher, she developed WAC curricula for Life Science classes throughout the ABC Unified School District.  During her doctoral work at USC, Leslie coordinated GAs teaching composition courses linked to classes like “Sociology of Families” and “Environmental Science.”  At CSUF, NIH and FEID grants funded her development of “Scientific Writing” and “Technical Writing” courses (respectively).  Leslie also led the writing-in-the-disciplines-based redesign of English 301, the composition class taken by students from across campus to satisfy CSUF’s upper-division writing requirement.  Each of these courses was designed to cultivate students’ ability to produce expert forms of discipline-appropriate writing.

As Faculty Fellow for WAC, Leslie invites CSUF faculty, administrators, and students to join a community dedicated to supporting student writers, helping faculty who want to integrate writing instruction into their courses, and creating a campus culture that values the ways writing can enhance learning and student engagement.
