Move Out Information

All on-campus residents are required to move out of student housing by 8:00 PM on the last Friday of finals week, or within 24 hours after their final exam—whichever comes first. To ensure a smooth checkout and avoid charges for improper checkout or damages, please follow all move-out instructions carefully.


Following the move-out procedures is each resident’s responsibility. Failure to comply with the outlined steps will result in an improper checkout fee.

Checkout Schedule

Monday (5/12) - Tuesday (5/13)

Holly Housing Office: 8am - 5pm

Holly Mail Room: 5pm - 9pm

Wednesday (5/14) - Thursday (5/15)

Piazza Tent: 8am - 5pm

Holly Mail Room: 5pm - 9pm

Friday (5/16)

All Day Piazza Tent: 8am - 8pm

After-Hours Checkout (9pm - 8am)

After-hours checkout will take place at the Holly Mailroom. A labeled envelope and an AFTERHOURS CHECKOUT FORM will be provided.


Please complete the form, place your keys inside the envelope, and drop both the envelope and completed form into the white drop box.

Step 1: Check your mailbox and update your active mailing address so you don't miss any important mail or packages after you move out.
  • You can edit your active mailing address through your CSUF student portal under Student Homepage > Profile.

 


Step 2: Empty and CLEAN your spaces.
  • If you have a rented a Microfridge: do NOT unplug it. Unplugging your microfridge can cause water damage.
  • For your convenience, vacuums and moving bins are available only during posted checkout hours. Please refer to the checkout schedule below for availability.
    Do not contact the RA on Duty to request a vacuum or moving bin—these requests will not be accommodated. The RA on Duty phone is for emergencies only. If you are unable to return a moving bin before the mailroom closes, you may leave it inside the Holly Mail Room.
  • Our staff will inspect your space after you check out. Charges will be applied for any damages, excessive mess, or items/trash left behind.
  • It is the responsibility of all residents to speak with all roommates and fill out the cleaning agreement form. Every roommate needs to submit their own!

Step 3: Discarding and Donating
  • Large dumpsters are available for use in RH Lot 1, RH Lot 2, and J Lot. You MUST take all trash to the dumpsters.
  • Donation bins will be on the first floor of your building. Trash or mattress pads will NOT be accepted.
  • If you have unopened non-perishable food, consider donating them at donation bins in the Piazza! Please do NOT donate food that is perishable or expired.

 


Step 4: Time to Check Out!
  • The times and places for checkout are listed to the left. Remember to check one last time that all belongings are removed.
  • All residents MUST complete checkout and return any keys, at the Housing Office or one of the listed checkout location during checkout hours
  • Residence Halls or Apartments: Return all keys in person during posted hours
  • Suites Residents: No keys required, but checkout is still mandatory at the front desk
Improper Checkout Fees
  • Failure to properly check out = $120 Improper Checkout Fee
  • Vacating without formally checking out is considered as an improper checkout
  • Missing or unreturned keys = $50 per key fee
