In the Classroom

Teaching for diversity, equity, and inclusion is crucial in establishing a foundation for students to become civically engaged citizens who create a society that recognizes the contributions of all people. Below are summaries of some of Cal State Fullerton's initiatives to support DEI in the classroom.

Expanding the Equity Pedagogy Module

The Equitable Pedagogy Module (EPM), a course in equity-minded teaching to improve student success outcomes, has been completed by more than 1,200 faculty since its launch in Fall 2021, leading to the university's investment to expand on the course.

EPM2 will focus on anti-racist teaching, specifically addressing anti-Blackness. Similar to the first iteration of EPM, the expansion will be designed with input from CSUF faculty, and include an online, asynchronous, self-paced course.

EPM provides foundational knowledge about equity-minded pedagogy, it introduces concrete, evidence-based strategies, a healthy variety of applied examples, and additional resources for continued learning. It has content for everyone, for faculty teaching small courses and large lecture courses, in-person and online, and STEM and non-STEM courses.

Support for One Book, One CSUF

One Book, One CSUF is a program in which members of the CSUF community choose a book that explores themes of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Each year, the Division of Academic Affairs  supports efforts to augment the program in the classroom by offering grants that support faculty efforts to incorporate activities related to the year's book selection.
