Composer Engelbert Humperdinck wrote his opera “Hansel & Gretel,” based upon the fairy tale by Ludwig Grimm, as an engagement present for his fiancé. After revising his original composition to create a full-scale opera, Richard Strauss conducted it's premiere. The opera was an instant success and went on to be the first complete opera to be broadcast on radio, and later the first to be transmitted live from the Metropolitan Opera.
The College of the Arts presents Engelbert Humperdinck's opera "Hansel and Gretel," a collaboration between the Departments of Music and Theatre & Dance. We sat down a spoke with some of the students involved in this production. Watch below as they discuss their collaborative experience!
