Hidden Wounds, Paper Bullets: Contemporary Iranian Art featuring 8 Iranian artists living in diaspora from their homeland. As a result of the Iranian Revolution of the 1970s, the artists participating in this exhibition fled their native country and now openly explore western culture and Iranian traditions through their art. These artists offer insight into a community torn between democratic and theocratic values, and a Persian past and Islamic present. In the Project Room Gallery Shirin Neshat’s DVD, Turbulent, will be showing. Curated by Elizabeth Little

CANTUS - All is calm: the christmas truce of 1914

Thursday, December 3, 2009
8 p.m. • Meng Concert Hall
The Western Front, Christmas Eve, 1914. Out of the violence of the Great War's trenches comes a silence, then a song as a young German soldier steps into no man's land singing Silent Night. Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, and peace. Cantus, one of America's finest male singing ensembles, returns to CSUF to present "All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914" by Peter Rothstein, with musical arrangements by Erick Lichte and Timothy C. Takach. Through new arrangements of European carols and war-songs, All Is Calm recalls the remarkable World War I truce between Allied Forces and German soldiers in no man's land on Christmas, 1914.
