Established in 1972, the California Music Academy at California State University, Fullerton was founded by CSUF Professor Emeritus Benton Minor. The purpose at that time was to provide a low-cost opportunity for Southern California High School students to learn about music in a summer setting that would enrich their lives and help them contribute to their school programs. CMA grew and expanded its scope since its first year and has provided a wide-range of courses and activities that are often not part of the public school curriculum.

The Program
The program offered an array of activities, with each student's personalized schedule to include a variety of ensembles, classes and workshops. Wind, brass and percussionists performed in the Wind Symphony, and strings in the Symphony Orchestra for their large ensemble experience. Additionally, students could audition on the opening day of camp to participate beyond their large ensemble--for the Symphony Orchestra, jazz bands and chamber ensembles.
