Highly respected as a teacher and a coach, David Grimes is Director of Guitar Studies. CSUF was among the first universities to offer degrees in classical guitar performance, and Grimes has developed the program into one of the nation's leading centers of guitar instruction. His career as a soloist has won enthusiastic acclaim throughout North America and Europe. He actively works with, and encourages contemporary composers to create new guitar works, and many composers have been impelled to write pieces for guitar upon hearing his performances. His own compositions are now being performed by prominent guitarists around the world. In addition, Grimes' interest in the guitar's predecessors has led to the publication of numerous celebrated editions, including Treasures of the Baroque and Luys Milán: the Complete Fantasias, all issued by Mel Bay Publications. He is president emeritus of the Guitar Foundation of America and continues as Reviews Editor for Soundboard journal.
