James RötterJames Rötter
Instructor in Music

Saxophonist James Rötter has enjoyed a multi-faceted international career, including performances as soloist, recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral saxophonist throughout the world. Rötter is the principal “on call” saxophonist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and Pacific Symphony Orchestra. He has performed, toured and recorded locally and internationally with the numerous orchestras including the Pittsburgh, Montreal, Rotterdam and St. Petersburg symphony orchestras. Popular among world’s great conductors, he has worked with Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yuri Temirkanov, Leonard Slatkin and Kent Nagano. Of a recent performance, LA Weekly writer Alan Rich hailed his performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic—“The most beautiful sound I have yet heard in Disney Hall was the dark-blue/violet invocation from James Rötter’s alto saxophone that began Darius Milhaud’s La creation du Monde: throbbing, mysterious, hall-filling, yet seeming to rise from far reaches.” Rötter teaches saxophone at Cal State Fullerton.
