FÜREYA ÜNAL, Instructor in Music

Fureya UnalFüreya was born in Istanbul in 1975 where she started playing the piano at the age of 3 1/2. Her formal music education began at five years of age with master artist and professor Sibel Kudatgobilik at Istanbul University State Conservatory. In 1996, Füreya was granted her bachelors degree from Istanbul Conservatory. She has been awarded two masters degrees. Her first masters was granted from Istanbul Conservatory, her second from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main.

After her graduation from Istanbul Conservatory in 1996, she gave solo recitals at the 2nd International Cemal Resit Rey Piano Festival and was personally selected by Hüseyin Sermet to play with him at the closing concert of the festival. From 1996 to 1998, she taught piano at Istanbul Conservatory.

During the last ten years, Füreya has been selected to perform in the master classes of Irina Zaritskaya, Mikhail Voskresenski, Anatol Ugorski and Leontina Margulis. Throughout 1995 and 1996, she studied in Monaco with State Artist Hüseyin Sermet at the Monaco Music Academy. In 1998, Füreya was admitted to the class of Arkady Aronov at the Manhattan School of Music. In 1999, she was granted a full scholarship by the Turkish Educational Foundation to study in Frankfurt, Germany with Catherine Vickers. After her return to Istanbul in 2002, Füreya was a teacher and
accompanist at Yildiz University.

As a concert artist, she has performed as soloist with the Istanbul State Conservatory Orchestra. She is a member of the faculty at California State University Fullerton and Santa Ana College. Füreya has given a number of concerts and recitals in Turkey, Germany, Monaco, France, Bulgaria, Italy, Switzerland and the United States, both as a solo artist and as accompanist and ensemble player.
