Grammy nominated composer, arranger and jazz pianist Bill Cunliffe has reaped nationwide attention for his innovative and swinging recordings and compositions. Winner of several Down Beat awards for his big band and orchestral pieces, he has toured as pianist and arranger with the Buddy Rich Big Band, and worked with Frank Sinatra, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson and James Moody. He currently plays with his trio, his group Imaginacion, and jazz flutist Holly Hofmann.
A Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Award winner, he’s received stipends from the National Endowment for the Arts. Orchestras from Cincinnati to LA have performed his works, and many of his many CDs have charted in nationwide jazz polls. His books Jazz Keyboard Toolbox and Jazz Piano Inventions (Alfred Publications) are standard jazz reference books. Bill studied jazz at Duke University with pianist Mary Lou Williams, and received his master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music.
