
Larry M. Timm

Larry M. Timm, Professor of Music at Cal State Fullerton, teaches oboe and is infamous for his film music classes. The second edition of his book The Soul of Cinema, published by Prentice-Hall, is the standard film music appreciation text used by major colleges and universities throughout the United States and in various parts of the world. An active performer, he was held the principal oboe position with the Long Beach Symphony for 18 years. He continues to perform, and has played with numerous Los Angeles-based orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Timm is also a producer of concerts for CBS and Sony Pictures and has many television documentaries to his credit. He received his bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University and two master’s degrees and a doctorate from Yale University.
