
Ken Walicki

Ken Walicki, a Fulbright Scholar, studied in Germany with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Helmut Lachenmann. He received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University studying with Jere Hutcheson. Ken has worked artists such as Lydia Lunch, Dora Ohrenstein, the Doug Elkins Dance Company, producer/director Mark Obenhaus, Bermuda Triangle, the Soldier String Quartet and ETHEL. His own ensemble has performed throughout the United States and Europe. The esteemed Kronos Quartet has given frequent performances of his string quartet “nada Brahma,” which they commissioned. Numerous groups have bestowed grants and commissions to him, including the American Composers Forum, the NEA, the Jerome Foundation, the Mary Flagler Cary Trust and Meet the Composer. Aesthetically, Ken has been influenced by a combination of growing up in Detroit as a rock guitarist, his involvement with World Music and Art Music. His music is available on Knitting Factory Works, CRS Artists, C.R.I., Channel Records and, in Japan, Riot Records.
