FACULTY MEMBER BILL CUNLIFFE RECEIVES A GRAMMY!

Cal State Fullerton’s Department of Music is pleased to announce Bill Cunliffe, Associate Professor of Music, has been honored with a prestigious Best Instrumental Arrangement Grammy® Award for his West Side Story Medley. The track is from "Resonance Big Band Plays Tribute To Oscar Peterson" [Resonance Records]. The award was presented on Sunday, January 31, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Cunliffe has toured as pianist and arranger with the Buddy Rich Big Band and worked with Frank Sinatra. He has also played and toured with many legends of jazz, including Ray Brown, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson, James Moody, and Joshua Redman. Currently, he plays with his own trio, his group Imaginacion, and duets with the great jazz flutist Holly Hofmann, with whom he has recorded five CD's.

Performances at Cal State Fullerton this spring that feature Mr. Cunliffe as composer or director include New Music Ensemble (March 10); Jazz Ensembles I & II (March 18); and Jazz Ensembles II & III (May 6). Mr. Cunliffe is the director of Cal State Fullerton’s Jazz small groups (combos) and Jazz Ensemble II.
