Electric power

Electrical power is provided continuously by a solar (photovoltaic) array and backup diesel generators. Outdoor lights are turned off at 10 pm, and visitors are encouraged to conserve electricity by leaving lights and fans off when not in use, and avoiding the use of high-wattage devices such as hair dryers. Discuss with the DSC staff if your project requires significant or very steady electrical power.

Cell and internet service

Cell service (4G) is available through all major providers on the DSC site; however, do not expect cell coverage while traveling through the Preserve or surrounding areas. The DSC has password-protected high-speed wifi, but access is not guaranteed and bandwidth is limited, which may cause significant lags in service when large groups are on site. Be considerate and minimize your public phone usage while on-site, which will allow everyone to enjoy uninterrupted the beauty and solitude of the desert.

Water and septic

Drinking water is filtered on-site and is available only at designated locations. Tap water is not suitable for drinking due to its high salt content. Wastewater drains into a septic system. Only biodegradable liquids, human waste, and toilet paper should go into drains. Use water sparingly and be gentle on our septic system.
