Kurzweil 3000

Kurzweil 3000 (K3000) is a text to speech software with tools that can assist you with reading, writing and studying. K3000 is available for free to all currently enrolled CSUF students. Visit the CSUF IT Kurzweil 3000 webpage to activate your free personal license.

File types that can be opened in Kurzweil 3000

Kurzweil 3000 can be used to read aloud most electronic text files. If your file ends with those listed below, it can be opened and read in Kurzweil 3000.

  • doc
  • epub
  • rtf
  • txt
  • kes
  • bks
  • png
  • jpg
  • jpeg

Opening a PDF, DOC, TXT, JPG (and other file types) in Kurzweil

In the Kurzweil 3000 computer appication (Mac and Windows):

  1. In Kurzweil, go to File > Open.
  2. Navigate to your file and select it.
  3. Click OPEN.

Your file will start opening in Kurzweil, it goes through a conversion process (OCR) - please wait for this to finish before attempting to read your document.

In Kurzweil 3000 online:

  1. Login to Kurzweil 3000Opens in new window  online.
  2. Depending on where you have your file saved, click on either the Google Drive button or the Computer button.
  3. Select the file you would like to open.

When you first open the file, there may be a delay until all the pages are available to read.

Changing your Kurzweil Username or Password

  1.  Login to Kurzweil 3000Opens in new window online.
  2. After logging in, hover the cursor over the My Account tab to display the drop-down menu. 
  3. Click My Account to display your account information.
  4. Click Profile to display the information about your account. On this Manage Profile Page, you can change your user name and/or password. After you make your changes click the Update Account Information button beneath the form.

I forgot my Kurzweil 3000 Password.

Use the following instructions to reset your Kurzweil 3000 password.

  1. Open your web broswer and go to  Kurzweil 3000 online.
  2. Under "Log Into Kurzweil 3000" box, beneath the "Password" field, select  " Forgot Password?" .
  3. Enter your  CSUF email address  and then select   Submit .
  4. In a few minutes, you should receive an email message about resetting your password from Kurzweil Education Customer Service. Open the message, select   Reset Password , and then follow the steps for creating a new password.
  5. Return to   Kurzweil 3000    and try logging in with your new password. If it works, you should be able to log into the Kurzweil 3000 Web License version application on your workstation.

Google Drive and Kurzweil 3000

If you would like to access your Kurzweil files on multiple devices or do not want to save them on your computer locally you can save them on Google Drive. Both the web (online) and computer application versions of Kurzweil integrate with Google Drive. The tutorials below will walk you through accessing and opening your Google Drive files in Kurzweil.

Kurzweil Read the Web for Online Content

Read the Web is a Kurzweil web browswer extension for Google Chrome and Firefox. You can use the extension to have online content read aloud to you.
